Beautiful work. I love the colour and those casings are awesome too!
I Am IMPRESSED! Love it. Thank you for the article and for your work.
Two questions: (1) What do you call those vertical slots of fabric on the modesty panel? The ones that the lacing passes through) I think that is such a practical idea. Do you have any guidelines for where on the modesty panel they are placed
(2) I don't have any 1/4 inch spiral steel but I have 1/2 inch. Having worked with this pattern so you think it might have a chance if the seam allowances were enlarged and then the larger spirals substituted for the 1/4 ones that you used? I know you can't make guarantees; I just want an educated judgement.
I have no idea what those slots on the modesty panel would be called :-) I saw that technique on another corset somewhere along the line and I thought it was a great idea. It works better if the modesty panel is lightly stiffened with something like the sew through plastic boning. When the panel is boned it makes it easier to keep your panel positioned if you have to lace yourself into the corset. As you can see I didn't bone my panel, I was all out of sew through boning. To make the slots you can use something as simple as a piece of ribbon. I just made a strip out of my panel fabric. As far as positioning the slots I just laid the panel under the laced corset and marked where it seemed like the slots would work best, nothing scientific.
Since there is no pattern to speak of for this corset you will be undertaking the same type of experiment that I did and when you scale the pattern up you may achieve different results. continued...
I am sure that 1/2" spirals can be utilized, it may just take some planning. I only had 1/4" on hand so that was part of the reason I went with that size as well :-) I will be revisiting this pattern again and I will keep tweaking it. I think there are a huge host of possibilities for it.
I just clicked onto your photographer's website and I can see why you say that she is your favorite photographer.
