  Great article, thanks for sharing your findings.
I usually pattern in a curve at the back of my corset patterns as I find it more comfortable. I always use spring steel boning, even though it's a curved centre back line. The flat bone forces the centre to be straight, but still keeps the fullness where you want it your and I don't have an issue with the lacing going wonky.
