great article Caroline!! This is an absolutely huge amount of work. I love the horizontal panels and hope you are going to publish a pattern for this. Your design will work beautifully for those backless dresses and your thoughts on adding a little more ease on the top and lower edges of the back panels make so much sense. Also love how the bust is supported here - the crucial element in the success of the backless dress. Amazing - thank you!
Thank you Bernicia! Yes this graded pattern is available on my Etsy site Corsets by Caroline - it's called Leyla.
Just wondering if you did sew the waist dart in the vertical side panel or share the dart excess in the panel outer seam? Photo 24, your final pattern, looks as though the vertical panel is narrower in 2B, 3B and 4B and doesn't show the dart marked.
Hi Ally, in the toile I took a dart in to tighten up the vertical panel, however I tweaked the final pattern to omit this dart and just reflect the measurement I would require in this panel - hence it is narrower. The black mesh version actually does have a dart in that vertical panel hidden under the boning channel that runs from the waist to the top of the corset.
